A Brief History of Wilstead Players
Wilstead Players was formed in 1971 after an influx of new young families to the village at the start of the housing boom.
The driving force in those early years was undoubtedly Derek Smith who sadly is no longer with us. A few of the original team are still very actively involved, along with many new members. The Group performed many serious and more light-hearted productions during the early years along with annual Revues of sketches, dancing and singing, involving lots of people from the village, both on stage and behind the scenes.
In past years the Players entered one-act plays in Drama Festivals and gained much praise and many awards, winning through to Area Finals in the All-England on several occasions and twice being selected to appear at the National All-Winners' Festivals in Felixstowe and Llandrindod Wells.
Every year we aim to put on two or three productions varying between plays, pantomimes, children's plays, variety shows and Olde Tyme Music Halls, with the occasional interactive Murder Mystery Evening including a four-course meal.
Our social programme includes an annual barbecue, occasional outings and play readings etc.
Our Patrons' Scheme exists for those who want to support us but do not necessarily want to get actively involved. In return for an annual donation, Patrons receive priority booking for our productions, newsletters and an invitation to the barbecue.
Anyone interested in joining us, becoming a Patron or being included in our regular newsletter can contact us using the 'Contact Us' button.
