July 2022 Newsletter

The Players held their long-postponed Annual General Meeting in the Village Hall on 16th June.  Apart from the business element of the Agenda, this was a very pleasant social event with wine and pizza provided on a warm summery evening.

Trish Baxter, our President took proceedings at the item on the Agenda for the Election of Officers and Committee. Colin West was again elected unopposed as Chairman/Secretary and Judy Jacobs was persuaded to continue as Treasurer for another year, again unopposed.  Gill Turnbull, also unopposed, was elected Village Hall Representative.  In addition, we were pleased to welcome two new members, Paul Wheeler and Alex Gould, to join the Committee.

Plans for the interactive Murder Mystery Dinner Evening are shaping up nicely. The dates for this are Friday and Saturday 21st and 22nd October.  As before seating will be at tables where a three-course dinner plus coffee and mints will be served.  The action will take place in the Hall and on the stage, and audience members will get the opportunity to quiz the suspects if they fancy themselves as detectives!

Whilst creating a new website, all the old photographs were found going back to when Wilstead Players were formed – some fifty years ago.  It was suggested that it would be good to show these to some of you that might be interested, in the form of a slide show at a social evening.  Perhaps you would let me know if this is something in which you would be interested in attending.

Looking further ahead, spring 2023 will see the production of a comedy play and dates for this will be confirmed shortly.

At the Annual General Meeting I thanked our loyal supporters and Patrons, our dedicated Members and not forgetting our backstage workers, front of house, bar and refreshments people.  I also said how I appreciated my fellow Committee Members for their support and assistance.

We are still looking for budding actors, possible directors, potential backstage workers and set builders and decorators.  There are lots of you out there, just give yourself a nudge – ‘oh, yes, something I have always wanted to do, but just not got round to it ‘.  If so, give me a call!

Hopefully, we shall be back to our pre-Covid ways in the future.
